Nicholas Leh Baker

Dallas-born Nicholas Leh Baker is a dynamic young conductor with a rising profile. He received the Bruno Walter Conducting Scholarship at the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, highlighting his artistic achievements. Nicholas has made his impactful debuts in Lima, Peru, at the Esuela de Música Tempo and Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola, with Lviv Philharmonic in Ukraine and in 2018 premiered a commissioned Violin Concerto by Jordan Kuspa featuring violinist Chloe Trevor.

Nicholas has guest conducted several ensembles, including the String Orchestra of Brooklyn, the Austin Symphony, and the Syzygy Contemporary Ensemble. He is currently the prinicpal guest conductor of the Houston Brass Band.

Nicholas frequently serves as a cover conductor for ensembles at the Shepherd School of Music, Rice University. Nicholas is the Director of Orchestras with The Americas Cultural Youth Orchestra and Young Artists Music Festival in Texas.

Nicholas is a dedicated violinist and chamber musician, known for founding Duo Scordatura, premiering numerous new works which was highlighted as a guest recital to a sold out performance at Carnegie Hall in 2016. His contributions have garnered praise from critics and composers alike, making him a promising talent. Baker is a graduate of SMU Meadows School of the Arts under notable mentors, including teachers as Larry Rachleff, Don Schleicher and Paul C. Phillips.
