Mauricio Oliveros, violin | head of chamber music

Colombian violinist Dr. Mauricio Oliveros is a multifaceted musician with a vast experience as a soloist, recitalist, chamber musician, arranger/improviser, and educator. He serves as the Associate Concertmaster of the Symphony of Southeast Texas while holding faculty positions at Houston Christian University, The Kinkaid School, and the Tallowood Academy of Fine Arts. He performs regularly throughout the American Continent, and has appeared as soloist with the several orchestras in his native country and in America. He has also collaborated with internationally acclaimed Latino artists such as Paquito D’Rivera, Alexis Cardenas, Eddy Marcano, Baden Goyo, Hector Molina, and Cecilia Duarte.  An avid lover of chamber music, he is a co-founder member and arranger of the Houston-based Terra Nostra Ensemble and the newly formed Ossia Trio. 

As an educator, Dr. Oliveros is actively involved in teaching at various institutions and has achieved success with his middle and high school students in concerto competitions and orchestra placements such as TMEA All-Region and All-State orchestras. He also engages in community outreach, offering clinics and masterclasses in the United States and Latin America.  Currently, Dr. Oliveros is working on recording a CD with his ensemble, Ossia Trio, and has plans for future projects, including writing violin solo caprices inspired by Colombian music. Outside of music, he enjoys travel, sports, cooking, and indulging in Netflix and history documentaries with his wife.
