Lawrence M. Flake, conductor & woodwind faculty
Mr. Flake, the Band Director at Grand Oaks High School, brings a wealth of experience to his role, having taught all levels of band with a specialization in woodwinds. A Texas native, he holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music from The University of Houston and a Master's of Music Degree from DePaul University, studying under the woodwind section of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
With a career spanning back to 2000, Mr. Flake is affiliated with prominent organizations like the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, and Association of Texas Professional Educators. His notable achievements include being selected into the DePaul University Clarinet Studio in 1997 and leading the McCullough Wind Ensemble to win the National Wind Band Honors Concert Band Contest in 2007.
In 2014, his College Park High School Clarinet Choir performed at the Mid-West Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, and most recently, the Grand Oaks Wind Ensemble was recognized as a 2021 Commended Winner of the National Wind Band Honors. Beyond his musical accomplishments, Mr. Flake finds joy in family life with his wife Karen and their two daughters, Madeline and Sydney, residing in Spring, Texas. In his spare time, he indulges in running, cooking, and hands-on activities.
